In ancient Greek mythology she is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. She became the queen of the underworld after her abduction by her uncle Hades, the king of the underworld.
She is also associated with the return of vegetation in the spring. Persephone is one of the main chthonic deities of the Greeks.
